Can We Chat?: Getting Candid On Business Growth Over Coffee
This is an ask I hear often from fellow designers or friends who are getting their feet wet in the industry. Sometimes it comes via a text, sometimes it’s a DM through my social media accounts, and sometimes it comes up organically when I bump into someone while out and about.
I’ll admit, it’s a question I haven’t always known how to answer. My schedule is so jam-packed that I simply can not sit down and dish over a latte as often as I’m asked, even when I know each coffee break would lead to a productive conversation about design and business.
It isn’t just about the time. Yes, running a thriving business on top of being a mom and a wife keeps me super busy, especially lately as we’ve all had to adjust and adapt to a different way of doing things during the pandemic. But I also feel that my expertise is valuable. It’s hard to commit to continuously giving away hard-learned advice for free.
I started in the design industry back in 2003–that’s 17 years ago–and have spent my career learning, growing, facing setbacks, and persevering. I’ve put so much of my time–and yes, even plenty of blood, sweat and tears–into my business. In short, I’ve worked hard to get where I am and it’s been a long, tough journey. There are no quick and easy ways to grow a business; it takes patience and sacrifice.
I’ve gathered a full tool belt of knowledge on how to run a business and I’d love to share it with those of you who are just starting out, or who are looking to take your current business model to the next level, but it comes at a cost.
Don’t worry, we aren’t talking about giving up your firstborn! However, having access to my time and my knowledge is worth investing in. I have learned countless industry secrets over the years and have some tried-and-true tips I’d love to share with you. Growing a tight knit community of designers is something that’s very important to me; the more of us there are working at our best, the more creativity and evolution we will bring to the industry.
We CAN chat over coffee
This is why Morgan Molitor from Construction2Style and I got together offer a coffee chat workshop so you can pick our brain over anything design/build. We want to sit down with you over coffee and get candid about our industry experiences. We have decided to charge a fee for each two hour workshop because we think that the information we can pass on is worth paying for.
A few topics we’ll be touching on while we sip coffee include how we got started in the design industry, what we consider the most effective ways to get new clients, what role blogging plays in growing a design business, which tech tools we prefer to use while presenting, and more. We will also be opening up the conversation so you can ask us your questions. We want you to leave this chat re-energized and ready to tackle new and hard things in order to grow your own business. So please, join Morgan and I for our first COFFEE CHAT, on Tuesday, August 11th, from 9-11 at our partners, The Tile Shop, in Plymouth. In order to keep our group small and intimate, we are limiting our chat to twenty attendees. Order your ticket here! We can not wait to hang out with you!
We are so grateful to The Tile Shop for sponsoring our event!
